In celebration of National Correctional Consciousness Week (NACOCOW) 2026, the Quezon City Jail – Male Dormitory, under the guidance of JSUPT MARIA LOURDES P PACION, City Jail Warden, joined hands with IDEALS Inc. (Initiatives for Dialogue and Empowerment through Alternative Legal Services), to host a transformative legal outreach and educational discussion for persons deprived of liberty (PDL).

Aligned with this year’s theme, “Makataong Paglilingkod, Makabuluhang Rehabilitasyon, Panibagong May Layunin” (Humane Service, Meaningful Rehabilitation, Purposeful Change), the initiative reinforced QCJ-MD’s commitment to uplifting PDLs through rights-based education, legal empowerment, and compassionate care.

The City Jail Warden, personally graced the event, welcoming the legal team from IDEALS Inc., led by Atty. Gail Ann Diola. The core session focused on legal literacy surrounding gender rights, human dignity, and personal safety. The discussion includes Gender-Based Rights, Equality & Sensitivity; Anti-VAWC Law (Republic Act No. 9262); Magna Carta of Women (R.A. 9710); and the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act (R.A. 9995). Participants were guided through core concepts of gender awareness, promoting mutual respect and equality within the jail facility and in their communities upon reintegration.

Concluding the educational session, IDEALS prepared meals and refreshments to all participating PDL. This simple act of hospitality brought warmth, camaraderie, and a sense of dignity to the attendees, reinforcing the event’s theme of human-centered rehabilitation.

True rehabilitation begins when individuals are empowered with knowledge, granted access to justice, and treated with fundamental human respect. Through proactive partnerships with organizations like IDEALS Inc., QCJ-MD continues to build a correctional environment focused on reform, purpose, and second chances.
