Turning waste into a valuable resource, Basic Environmental Systems & Technologies Inc. (BEST) in tandem with QC Climate Change Council and Environmental Sustainability Department returned to the Quezon City Jail-Male Dormitory on June 11, 2026, to roll out another round of their innovative Trash to Cash Program.

The environmental initiative creates a sustainable cycle inside the facility by collecting recyclable materials generated by both personnel and persons deprived of liberty. Instead of traditional waste disposal, the gathered recyclables are weighed and converted into Environmental Points.

These points are credited directly to specialized Trash to Cashback cards, which PDL can subsequently redeem for essential grocery items and daily commodities. By transforming everyday waste management into a tangible reward system, the partnership between QCJ-MD and BEST Inc. not only promotes a cleaner, eco-friendly facility but also provides meaningful financial and material benefits directly to the PDL.
